I was born and raised in the Chicago, IL area.  I attended Grinnell College (in Grinnell, Iowa) and graduated in 1966 with a BA, majoring in Political Science.  I then attended the University of Illinois School of Law and graduated with a JD degree in 1969.  My family (spouse Sandra and children John & Kim) moved to Eugene after graduation where I took an appointment as law clerk for Douglas R. Spencer.  After the years appointment ended I practiced general law as an associate for two years before joining Hutchinson, Anderson, Cox and Teising as a partner.

My 16 years with that firm ended when I found my idealism and the practice of law in conflict and decided to change careers and sell business opportunities with a firm I had represented in my legal practice, Oregon Business Properties, Inc.  I have enjoyed the change from an adversarial role to one of being a positive problem solver for both parties in a transaction.  During my 20 years as sales associate/business valuator, I spent 2+ years with Prichard and Evans, a commercial real estate firm, and expanded my knowledge/experience base to include general commercial real estate.

I am a wild/rabid track and field fan and serve as head timer for track meets at the University of Oregon, the Oregon High School Championships and, and when held in Eugene the national championship meets for both collegiate (NCAA) and open (USAT&F) competition.  Regular running as a fitness workout has allowed  me to continue competing in age group competition in the 400 meters.  Perseverance  enabled me to earn an All-American rating from the Nation Masters News.  I am also on the board for the Oregon Track Club.

My early music lessons have resulted in my continuing to play the string bass in the 17 piece swing band "Swing Shift" which performs at dances and concerts in Eugene and environs.

I enjoy writing poetry and am most inspired by my four grandchildren who show absolute joy and wonder in greeting each day of life.  Other hobbies include jigsaw and crossword puzzles, backpacking/hiking, and generally anything that has to do with physical activities/sports.
